Services

IMPROVED TECHNOLOGY

We offer a wide variety of dental services, ranging from the standard (retainers, crowns, fillings, extractions and more) to implants, teeth whitening, root canals, teeth cleaning, etc. We employ a full staff of dentists & oral hygienists.

2D Digital Panorex and 3D Conebeam

As one of the most user-friendely Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) systems on the market, the CS 9000 3D Extraoral Imaging System offers several versatile solutions for your extraoral imaging needs.  Combining focused-field 3D technology with dedicated panoramic imaging, offering the highest resolution and the lowest radiation dose.

Sterilization Room

Sterilization is an essential step in the reprocessing of reusable dental instruments that have become contaminated, or are potentially contaminated, with saliva, blood or other biological fluids.  This includes dental hand pieces.  Sterilization is of the utmost importance to ensure an organism free environment and to prevent cross infection.

Smile Design

First Impressions are Sealed with a Smile.

Digital Smile Design (DSD) is a treatment planning protocol that allows for careful analysis of the patient’s facial and dental structures through state-of-the-art videography and digital technology. Today the DSD concept is considered the most modern patient centered design approach available.

An organised and systematic approach is required to evaluate, diagnose and resolve aesthetic problems predictably.  Inspired by the Digital Smile Design methodology, our DSD app enables our team to create a cosmetic treatment plan and simulation to share with patients and fellow team members, leading to superior aesthetic and functional results in our smile rehabilitation cases.

Make the right impression!

CadCam (Cerec)

EREC technology makes it possible to produce and integrate ceramic restorations in a single appointment.  Unlike other materials such as amalgam or gold, ceramic is more biocompatible and boasts tooth-like physical and aesthetic qualities.  In addition, digital impressions are more comfortable for patients than traditional impressions.

Dental Operating Microscope

“Sometimes what is clear and obvious for some, becomes vague and obscure to many!” eg. “In dentistry you cannot treat what you cannot see” Dr Kim

The dental operating microscope has become an indispensable tool in endodontics and when used in other dental disciplines has proved to be invaluable with regards to

  • Improved ergonomics
  • Reduced eye strain
  • Improved lighting
  • Improved treatment outcomes
  • Documentation, education and communication

We have at SWD Dental, invested in a R500 000 Leica F12 microscope as the Swiss company Leica is known for their excellence and precision.

I cannot and refuse to practice endodontics without a microscope for the following reasons.

  • Ability to diagnose fractures (Dental Loupes magnification is 2.5 x whereas the Leica is 40 x)
  • Locating difficult canal systems especially the fourth canal (MB2) in an upper first molar which is present 90% of the time and probably located 5% of the time.
  • Treatment of premolars which can have up to 7 canal variations (Vertucci’s variations)
  • Treatment of canal obliterations and calcifications
  • Perforation repair and removal of fractured(separated) instruments
  • Microsurgery (Apicoectomy)

The combination of a CBCT, Dental operating microscope, 3D instrumentation and debridement of canals and finally obturation with a biologic hydrated calcium phosphate silicate (TotalFill Bioceramic) has allowed us to achieve a very high success rate.

Wand Local Anaesthesia

The Single Tooth Aneasthesia (STA) System from Milestone Scientific is the first computer controlled local dental anaesthetic system where just one injection at a single tooth is all that is needed to scientifically, safely and predictably ensure single-session injection precision.

It enables the dentist to give faster, easier and better anaesthesia, which is virtually pain free.

An additional benefit is that it eliminates collateral numbness, so the patient will not have a droopy lip or a numb tongue.

Overall, it gives patients a “positive” experience in the dental chair, taking the fear out of local anaesthesia for young and old and especially children.

Nitrous Oxide (Happy Gas)

Nitrous oxide is a safe inhalation gas which is very effective in reducing stress and anxiety in patients.  People who experience severe fear and worry, are more likely to feel pain and nitrous oxide helps to overcome tis obstacle in a clinical situation.  Inhalation sedation is safer and simpler and a lot cheaper than intra0venous sedation or general anaesthesia, and the patient will not need post-operative supervision.  There is no need for fasting prior to the procedure when happy gas is used, and in fact, we encourage a light meal before all dental appointments.

Conscious Sedation

Conscious sedation dentistry is a medical procedure involving the administration of sedative drugs via an oral or an intra-venous route, generally to facilitate a dental procedure and reduce patients’ anxiety related to the experience.  A qualified anaesthetist normally administrates the sedation.
